BHLG President, Kaye Rodden, announced at the August meeting “we have been successful in winning a Victorian Landcare Grant to reinstate 6ha of a wetland, south of Mt Pollock, that already provides a resting place for brolgas. We are setting up a small steering committee to oversee this project which needs to be completed in 12 months.”
The wetland will be fenced off and planted with a mixture of indigenous trees, shrubs and grasses to restore an area that is notoriously difficult to farm, especially in wet years. The Project, which is to be completed in 2019, will create a haven for local wildlife, a carbon store and a picturesque feature on the landscape.
As they have in previous years, Group members will support the Project through a number of organised “planting days”.
